From Latin abscissa (linea) meaning “cut off (line)”, from abscindere “to cut off”; used in analytic geometry for the part “cut off” on an axis.
लैटिन abscissa (linea) से, जिसका अर्थ “कटी हुई (रेखा)” है; यह abscindere “काट देना” से बना है; विश्लेषणात्मक ज्यामिति में अक्ष पर “कटा हुआ” भाग/दूरी के अर्थ में प्रयुक्त।
Definition
In a Cartesian coordinate system, the abscissa is the x-value of an ordered pair (x, y); it tells how far left or right a point lies from the y-axis.
