tipster শব্দটি এসেছে tipster (যে ‘টিপ’ দেয়) থেকে; এটি tip (‘পরামর্শ’ বা ‘তথ্যের টুকরো’) + কর্মকারী বোঝানো প্রত্যয় -ster মিলিয়ে গঠিত। tip শব্দটি ১৭শ শতক থেকে ইংরেজিতে ‘ইঙ্গিত/পরামর্শ দেওয়া’ অর্থে ব্যবহৃত।

Tipsters are individuals who offer advice or predictions—most commonly about horse racing, sports betting, or gambling—often claiming they can help others choose winners; the term can also mean people who pass on inside information to authorities or journalists.
