From Latin tessera (“a small square piece; token; die”), with tesserae as the plural form; adopted in art history for mosaic pieces and later borrowed in planetary geology for a distinctive ridged terrain.
লাতিন tessera থেকে এসেছে (অর্থ: “ছোট বর্গাকার টুকরা/টোকেন/পাশা”); tesserae হলো এর বহুবচন রূপ—প্রথমে শিল্প-ইতিহাসে মোজাইকের খণ্ড বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়, পরে গ্রহ-ভূতত্ত্বে বিশেষ রিজযুক্ত ভূভাগ বোঝাতেও গৃহীত হয়েছে।
Definition
Tesserae are the small individual pieces (often square) of stone, glass, wood, or ivory that are set into mortar to form a mosaic image or pattern; in planetary geology, tesserae refers to highly deformed, intersecting ridges and grooves forming a distinctive plateau terrain on Venus (and possibly on Triton).
টেসেরা (tesserae) হলো ক্ষুদ্র পৃথক খণ্ড (প্রায়ই বর্গাকার) পাথর, কাচ, কাঠ বা হাতির দাঁতের টুকরা, যা গাঁথুনি/মর্টারে বসিয়ে মোজাইক চিত্র বা নকশা তৈরি করা হয়; গ্রহ-ভূতত্ত্বে tesserae বলতে শুক্র গ্রহে (এবং সম্ভবত ট্রাইটনে) দেখা জটিলভাবে বিকৃত, পরস্পর ছেদকারী রিজ ও খাঁজযুক্ত উঁচুভূমি/মালভূমির বিশেষ ভূ-আকৃতিকে বোঝায়।
