From Middle English tail(e), from Old French taille (“a cut, piece”), ultimately from Latin talea (“rod, cutting”). “Tails” as the coin side is a later extension meaning the non-head side.
মধ্য ইংরেজি tail(e) থেকে, যা প্রাচীন ফরাসি taille (“কাটা, টুকরা”) থেকে এসেছে; মূলত লাতিন talea (“ডাল/কাঠি, কাটিং”) থেকে। কয়েন টসের “tails” অর্থটি পরে প্রসারিত হয়ে ‘মাথার ছবি নেই এমন দিক’ বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Definition
“Tails” most commonly means the plural of “tail” (an animal’s rear appendage), and it can also mean the reverse side of a coin in a coin toss (opposite “heads”). As a verb, “to tail” means to follow someone secretly.
