Definition
In neurophysiology and pharmacology, “prejunctional” describes structures, receptors, or processes that are situated on, or occur at, the nerve ending (presynaptic side) before the synaptic or neuromuscular junction where signals are transmitted to another cell. It is often used when discussing how drugs, neurotransmitters, or nerve impulses act at the site just before a junction with another nerve cell or an effector organ.
