শব্দটি মধ্য ইংরেজি pore থেকে এসেছে; তা পুরাতন ফরাসি pore হয়ে লাতিন porus এবং প্রাচীন গ্রিক poros (“পথ/পথরন্ধ্র, ছিদ্র”) থেকে উদ্ভূত—মূল ভাব ‘যাতায়াতের পথ/ক্ষুদ্র খোলা অংশ’।
Definition
Pores are very small openings, especially on the surface of the skin, through which sweat and oils can pass; by extension it can mean any tiny opening in a material. As a verb, 'pores' means 'studies very carefully' or 'thinks/reflects steadily (often: pore over)'.
‘Pores’ বলতে সাধারণত ত্বকের ওপরের খুব ছোট ছোট রন্ধ্র/ছিদ্র বোঝায়, যার মাধ্যমে ঘাম ও তেল বের হতে পারে; বিস্তৃত অর্থে কোনো বস্তুতে তরল চলাচল করতে পারে এমন ক্ষুদ্র ক্ষুদ্র ছিদ্রও বোঝায়। ক্রিয়া হিসেবে ‘pores’ মানে খুব মনোযোগ দিয়ে খুঁটিয়ে পড়া/পর্যবেক্ষণ করা বা স্থিরভাবে ভাবা (প্রায়ই: pore over)।
