From Middle English phantom, via Old French fantosme, from Latin phantasma and Greek phantasma (‘an appearance, image’), from phantazein (‘to make visible, to appear’).
মধ্য ইংরেজি phantom শব্দ থেকে; পুরনো ফরাসি fantosme হয়ে; লাতিন phantasma ও গ্রিক phantasma (‘দৃষ্ট হওয়া অবয়ব/ছবি’) থেকে এসেছে, যা গ্রিক phantazein (‘দৃশ্যমান করা, প্রকাশ পাওয়া’) ধাতুর সঙ্গে সম্পর্কিত।
Definition
Phantoms are unreal or illusory figures—often imagined ghosts—or anything that seems to exist but has no real substance; it can also mean persistent fears or ideas that haunt the mind.
Phantoms বলতে এমন অবাস্তব/ভ্রমাত্মক অবয়ব বা উপস্থিতিকে বোঝায়—অনেক সময় কল্পিত ভূত—অথবা এমন কিছু যা আছে বলে মনে হয় কিন্তু বাস্তবে কোনো দৃঢ় অস্তিত্ব নেই; মনকে তাড়া করে বেড়ানো ভয় বা ধারণাকেও বোঝাতে পারে।
