The term “misregistration” refers to a situation where separate elements that are supposed to line up precisely do not match up correctly, causing a visible shift, overlap, blur, or ghosting effect—for example, when different color plates in printing are slightly out of place, or when layers in a digital or medical image are not perfectly aligned.
