Mesoperthitic

Formed from “meso-” meaning ‘middle’ or ‘intermediate’ and “perthitic,” which itself comes from “perthite,” the name of a feldspar with intergrown alkali feldspar and plagioclase; “perthite” was originally named after Perth, Ontario, where such intergrowths were first described.

In petrology, “mesoperthitic” refers to the texture of feldspar minerals that show intergrowths of two different feldspar phases (usually alkali feldspar and plagioclase) at a medium or intermediate scale; the texture is coarser than microperthitic but finer than macroperthitic, and it forms as the mineral cools and unmixes from a homogeneous high‑temperature feldspar.
