বাংলা ‘রকম’ শব্দটি ফারসি/আরবি উৎসের ‘রকম/رقم’ (চিহ্ন, সংখ্যা, লিখিত দাগ ইত্যাদি) শব্দের প্রভাবে গঠিত বলে ধরা হয়; বাংলায় অর্থ সম্প্রসারিত হয়ে ‘ধরন/প্রকার’ অর্থে প্রচলিত
