সংস্কৃত ‘অবিদ্যা’ (অ- ‘না’ + বিদ্যা ‘জ্ঞান’) থেকে; বাংলায় সাধারিত/সংক্ষিপ্ত রূপ হিসেবে ‘অবিদ্য’ও ব্যবহৃত হয়

From Sanskrit ‘avidyā’ (a- ‘not’ + vidyā ‘knowledge’); in Bengali a simplified/shortened form ‘অবিদ্য’ is also used
