সংস্কৃত ‘জীবৎ’ (জীবিত) + ‘দশা’ (অবস্থা/পর্যায়) থেকে গঠিত ‘জীবদ্দশা’; তাতে ‘-য়’ বিভক্তি যোগে ‘জীবদ্দশায়’

Formed from Sanskrit ‘jīvat’ (alive) + ‘daśā’ (state/condition) → ‘jīvadaśā’ (one’s living state); with the locative/postpositional ending ‘-য়’ it becomes ‘জীবদ্দশায়’ meaning ‘in one’s lifetime’
