আরবি/ফারসি উৎসের ‘গিলা/গুলা’ (গলা/কণ্ঠ) থেকে বাংলায় প্রচলিত; কথ্য ভাষায় ‘গলা’ অর্থেও এবং চিকিৎসাবিদ্যায় কণ্ঠনালী/স্বরযন্ত্র অর্থে ব্যবহৃত
Used in Bengali from an Arabic/Persian-source term associated with the throat/neck; in colloquial use it can mean ‘throat,’ and in medical sense it refers to the larynx/voice box

শ্বাসনালীর উপরের অংশে অবস্থিত কার্টিলেজ ও পেশিবহুল অঙ্গ, যেখানে স্বরতন্ত্রী থাকে এবং শ্বাস-প্রশ্বাস ও ধ্বনি উৎপাদনে ভূমিকা রাখে; কখনও কখনও রোগজনিত ‘গিলিয়া’ (বৃদ্ধি/স্ফীতি) বোঝাতেও ব্যবহৃত হয়
