সংস্কৃত ‘চিত্র’ (ছবি/অঙ্কন) + ‘পট’ (কাপড়/পর্দা/পাত) থেকে গঠিত; বাংলায় ‘পটচিত্র’ ও মঞ্চ-ব্যাকড্রপ অর্থে প্রচলিত

Formed from Sanskrit ‘चित्र (citra: picture)’ + ‘पट (paṭa: cloth/screen/leaf)’; used in Bengali for scroll paintings and also for stage/scene backdrops

চিত্রপট বলতে চিত্র আঁকা বা অঙ্কিত দৃশ্য-সম্বলিত পট/পর্দা বোঝায়; লোকশিল্পের পটচিত্র, প্রদর্শনীর জন্য আঁকা ক্যানভাস, বা নাটক-চলচ্চিত্রে ব্যবহৃত ব্যাকড্রপ/পটভূমি—সবই চিত্রপট নামে পরিচিত
