সংস্কৃত ‘वि’ উপসর্গ ও ‘ক্রিয়া’ (কর্ম/কার্য) থেকে গঠিত; ‘ক্রিয়া’র বিশেষ রূপ ‘বিক্রিয়া’ অর্থে প্রতিক্রিয়া বা কার্য-প্রতিকার বোঝায়
Formed from Sanskrit prefix ‘वि-’ and ‘क्रिया’ (action/deed); the derived form ‘বিক্রিয়া’ came to mean a response/reaction, and is also used for ‘reaction’ in scientific contexts.

কোনো ঘটনা, প্রশ্ন, আঘাত, উদ্দীপনা বা ক্রিয়ার প্রভাবে যে প্রতিক্রিয়া/সাড়া সৃষ্টি হয় তাকে বিক্রিয়া বলা হয়; বিজ্ঞানে এটি বিশেষভাবে পদার্থের রাসায়নিক পরিবর্তনের প্রক্রিয়াকেও বোঝায়
